ZAP SPONSORS FIRST 'ZINPOSIUM' Spring 2002--- On June 15 in Rohnert Park ZAP sponsors the first 'Zinposium' 2002: The Conference on American Zinfandel, a series of panel discussions and tastings with a luncheon designed by Michael Chiarello, based at the Doubletree Hotel (Rohnert Park). A banquet dinner and dance at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center in Fulton will follow the Conference. Sessions run from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. The evening festivities run from approximately 6:30 until 10:00 p.m.. An 'early bird package" with a ticket each for the Conference and banquet dinner/dance is $215.00 when purchased through the ZAP office before March 14, 2002. This price changes to $245.00 on May 24. Individual ZAP member prices: for the Conference, $199.00; for the banquet, $85.00. Non-member prices: for the Conference, $235.00; for the banquet, $90.00. Topics will include Zinfandel Pioneers, Zinfandel Research, Conversations with Growers & Winemakers (from Lodi, Sierra Foothills, Dry Creek), Old Vines/New Vines: A Comparative Tasting, One Vineyard/Many Vintners--The Monte Rosso Vineyard, Zinfandel Blending, Zinfandel & Its Relatives, Young Turks: The Future of Zinfandel. Speakers will include Doug Beckett (Peachy Canyon Winery), Robert Biale (Robert Biale Vineyards), Michael Chiarello (NapaStyle), Matt Cline (Cline Cellars), Paul Draper (Ridge Vineyards), Jerry Fry (Mohr Fry Ranches), David Gates (Ridge Vineyards), Rayna Green (Smithsonian Institution), Scott Harvey (Folie a Deux), Ivo Jeramaz (Grgich Hills Cellars), Jeff McBride (Dry Creek Vineyards), Peter Mathis (Ravenswood), Dr. Carole Meredith (UC Davis, Dept. of Viticulture), Mark Oberschulte (Monte Rosso Vineyards), Al Perry (Robert Biale Vineyards), Gregory Perucci (Accademia Dei Racemi), Joel Peterson (Ravenswood), Jim Rickards (Dry Creek grower), Kent Rosenblum (Rosenblum Cellars), Linda Schaffer (Monte Rosso Vineyards), Jerry Seps (Storybook Mountain Vineyards), Charles Sullivan (historian), Grady Wann (Quivira Vineyards) and Dr. James Wolpert (UC Davis, Dept. of Viticulture). ZAP will host a winemaker dinner at Earth & Ocean in Seattle on April 29, 2002 and a public tasting at Bell Harbor International Conference Center in Seattle on April 30. The group will host a dinner at the Benson Hotel in Portland on May 1 and a public tasting at the Cascade Crescent Banquet Center in Portland on May 2. In 2001 ZAP traveled to Austin, Scottsdale and Las Vegas and also traveled to Europe for the first time, visiting London, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf. The 13th Annual ZAP Festival will be held January 24-26, 2003 at Fort Mason in San Francisco.
