Jessie’s Grove Winery A FAMILY HISTORY

Jessie’s Grove Winery is nestled between the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Lodi, the perfect environment for growing premium wine grapes and producing world-class wines. Lodi enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm days, cool nights, and a soft bay delta breeze. Jessie’s Grove Winery’s history is significant not only to the Lodi area, but to California’s
heritage as well. Jessie’s father, Joseph, came to the Lodi area in the 1860’s in search of land “where the oak trees grew the tallest.” He settled in the heart of the Lodi appellation on a 320 acre ranch. Jessie, a natural environmentalist of the 1800’s, inherited her father’s respect for nature and his love for the priceless oak trees on the family’s ranch. She set aside a 32-acre
oak-covered parcel and rejected all opportunities to
develop the grove. The oak grove, ranch, and winery have been named in honor of Jessie. Except for the addition of modern stainless steel tanks,the winery authentically preserves the feel of the ranch in the 1800’s. It is a family legacy and a precious reminder of the way the land used to be. The vines flourish in the rich soil, and some of the original Zinfandel vines planted by Jessie in the 1890’s are still harvested for our best wine. Even today, the winery and ranch continue to be a family operation, from the caring of the ancient vineyards to hosting of the annual Groovin’ in the Grove summer Rhythm and Blues live concert series.
Some of the Zinfandel vineyards have been named after the family owned horses that roam the pastures within the vineyards. Our Westwind,Fancy Quest and Royal Tee are such examples of the “other members” of the Jessie’s Grove family. Visitors to Jessie’s Grove Winery can enjoy lunch at picnic tables and watch the horses grazing just feet from where they sit, or take walks through the vineyards or the ancient oak grove. The Joseph Spenker Museum of antique farming equipment allows guests to touch our rich history, and well-preserved photos on the walls of the tasting room trace the generations of our proud family
while savoring our excellent wines.

Fifth generation and winemaker Greg Burns is teacher his daughter and sixth generation the winemaking process and the skills of constructing a good quality wine.
Lynette McClain is our Director of National Sales and Administration. Akaylia Sidener is our Tasting Room Manager and Event Coordinator.
