Winemaker Tasting Notes:	We began producing an interesting series of vineyard specific old-vine Zinfandels in the 2004 vintage. The series contains this wine, Wagon Wheel, along with Three Goose, Old Barn and Wind Machine. “Old Vine” is a complimentary term applied to grape vines that are at least 40 years in age. These gnarled old vines are often head-pruned and allowed to grow quite naturally unfettered by trellis or guiding wires. We applied the fanciful name Wagon Wheel to evoke the look of the vine’s canes, growing from the tops of these head-pruned vines, circling the plant and making a sort of grape vine wagon wheel. Wagon Wheel proves that Zinfandel can have finesse as well as power. The classic black pepper aromas and brambly fruit flavors are to be expected of Dry Creek Zinfandel.
