Lava Cap Winery is in the El Dorado Appellation of the Sierra Foothills. It takes its name from volcanic rocks that cap the ridges on which our vineyards were developed. Lava Cap's first crush was in 1986. The awards from wine competitions and accolades from writers and consumers started soon after. Today, Lava Cap is one of the most decorated wineries in the Sierra Foothills. Owned and operated by the Jones family, Winemaker Thomas Jones and his brother Charles Jones, Vineyard Manager, create wines with elegant varietal flavors and crisp acidity. We enjoy handcrafting premium wines with rich and artistic merit and great character from our mountain vineyard. We create wonderful zinfandels and also several other red and white wines. A visit to our winery is peaceful and relaxing. We are near Placerville, California, and are just far enough off the main thoroughfare to make one feel like they have discovered a beautiful jewel.
