(Event to be scheduled at a mutually convenient date in June, 2003.) Back to TopZinfandel vines from every grape growing region in California, dating back to the 1800s, still produce grapes. The genetic qualities of these grapes so interest scientists that the University of California at Davis has established a Heritage Vineyard specifically to study these "old vine" Zinfandels. The Zinfandel Heritage Vineyard fills an entire acre at the University's Research Station in Oakville in the Napa Valley. More than 90 different selections have been planted, chosen from vineyards in 14 different counties. Each vine is head-trained and spur-pruned in the "goblet" shape, as they would have been in the 19th century. The Association of Zinfandel Advocates & Producers is proud to sponsor the Heritage Vineyard. There's not enough to go around, so you're going to have to share! The 50 bidders will each take home a magnum of 2001 Heritage Vineyard Zinfandel, by producing winemaker Joel Peterson. Back to Top |
